Old Hollywood-The Gables

Good Morning All,

Some of you know I am an old Hollywood buff and have collected on Carole Lombard for 30+ years. I am a day late, but yesterday was the 71st anniversary of her wedding to Clark Gable. They drove all night to Kingman, AZ from LA, Gable was on a short break from the making of "Gone With The Wind." They were married in Kingman, spent the night, then drove back to LA to meet the reporters. Here is a picture from that day. Their wedding date was March 29, 1939.

Hope you all have a great day!

Coffee Table and Bunny

Good Evening All,

I am linking up with Marty over at A Stroll Thru Life and Table Top Tuesday. This is a little display I have on the coffee table.
The magazine is Better Homes and Gardens from 1945 and I picked up the bunny at Jeffery Allen's. He will go in my flower gardens this summer :)

Living Room at the Cape House

Hi All,

I think this picture was taken about the same time as the one of the kitchen, that I posted a few days ago. Probably about 4 years ago. As I have said before, I can't wait to get back to my "little house." That is where my heart is :) I am reposting this pic and linking up with Show Off Your Cottage Monday.
Have a great day, all!

Very, Berry Dishes

Good Morning All,

I am liking up with Cindy at Show and Tell Friday. I found these little dessert plates last weekend at Jeffrey Allen's for only 1.97/ea! I love the fruity pattern and thought they would be great to serve a summer dessert on :)

Ktichen at the Cape Cod

Good Evening All,

I found an older picture of the kitchen at our little house, The Cape Cod. As most of you know, we are living at The Daisy Inn, hoping to sell and my son is at the little Cape house. He will be moving early summer and then we will move back. I can't wait to get in there and spruce it up from a bachelor living there for 1-1/2 yrs!

There were changes in the kitchen, shortly after this picture was taken.A custom built shelf over the stove holds the microwave. A new tile countertop and the blue wall is now red. I also painted the bottom cabinets and light green. A white farm sink was put in place of the old stainless sink. These are original cabinets to the house, built in 1939. When we get all moved back in, I will love taking pictures and posting after the "spruce up" job!

Easter Dinner Table

Hi Everyone,

I am "hopping" on over to Susan's and Tablescape Thursday. I thought I would share pictures of my Easter table. My china pattern is Spode Fairy Dell, most likely from the 1920's. The crystal is Waterford, and my bunnies are from Valerie Parr Hill.

Best,

Robin

My Red "R"

Good Morning,

I am joining in on Rednesday over at It's A Very Cherry World. I can't think of anything more RED than my "R", my little tribute to Mary Tyler Moore and the "M" she had on her show in the 70's.

Have a great day,

Robin

Gentleman Jimmy Stewart

Today I am linking up with Chari and Sunday Favorites, where you can repost a favorite post from the past. I thought I would share with you my Jimmy Stewart story, again. Happy Sunday!

I am a big fan of "old Hollywood" and California at the start of the motion picture industry. I decided I would write Jimmy Stewart one year and express my sentiments about his movie, "It's a Wonderful Life." I wanted to let him know how inspirational I thought it was. I had no idea he would send a card back to me. From then on, I would send him a Christmas and birthday card until his death. He was such a wonderful man and American. He would always take the time to send a card back, and sometimes talk about his garden that he planted and maintaned in Beverly Hills. Here is one of the cards he sent back to me.

Lime Green and Orange

I am just loving this combination of color. I found this dishtowel at our local garden shop, so pulled out a cup and my little rain boot flower arrangement to compliment the towel. So cheery!

Happy weekend to all!

Gazebo at The B and B

I am linking up with Cindy and Show and Tell Fridays, so since I am longing to see some GREEN, thought I was post a nice picture of our gazebo at The Daisy Inn. This was taken late last summer. Aren't the trees lush?

Hare you there???

Sunday morning I went out to retrieve the paper and in my flower bed was the most adorable bunny. It was bigger than the kind we generally see in these part, but smaller than the pet floppy-eared rabbits. This one was sitting upright, like a cat. I didn't have my camera(darn it), but this is what the little rascal looked like. My husband saw him again, a couple of days later, so I am keeping the camera close. We have decided he is a "Hare." I am certain now the Easter Bunny will find us!

Red Geraniums

Check out It's A Very Cherry World, where Sue hosts Rednesday. It's still too cold to plant the real thing in Illinois, so for now the silk geraniums will grace my table.

Old Box, New Flowers

Hi all,

Took all the winter greenery out of the old box and filled it with springy flowers. Some of the flowers came from Dollar General, so quite inexpensive, some I found in the storage room. I love the way it turned out. :)
p.s. I am linking up with Susan and Outdoor Wednesday. My box is on my back porch, so this is best I can do in Illinois for outdoors, for now.

Clark, Carole and Tennis

Hi All,
This post is from March of this year. I am linking up with Chari over at Happy to Design and Sunday Favorites.

Good Morning all,

Looks like we might see some sun in Illinois today! What a welcome site. Tuesday is my tennis day, so off I go for tennis and lunch with my dear tennis girls. What fun we have!

I thought I would occasionally post a picture of one of my favorite couples from time to time. As I have mentioned before, I collect on Carole Lombard, so today I post a picture of Carole and her beloved husband, Clark Gable on the grounds of their ranch in Encino, CA. circa 1940. Enjoy!

Best,

New Wreath

Just had to show all of you my new find from Big Lots. A pussywillow wreath. I think it pairs well with my old tole lamp from ebay, throw from my Mom and rocking chair.

Have a great day!

Warmer temps and Easter memories

The weather has "almost" been balmy here in Illinois! I was thinking of an Easter memory this morning. When I was little my Dad dressed in white and put rabbit ears on and went from window to window, outside. He would tap on the window and pop up just enough so I could get a glimpse of the big bunny ears. How exciting that the Easter Bunny had found my house! Many years later he did the same for my kids. That is the kind of Dad that I have. How blessed am I? Love my Dad.

Good Evening all,
I am participating in Thankful Thursday. I have so much to be thankful for, but most of all my family. Thanks for reminding us to think of all we have to be thankful for, Rhondi. :)

Strawberries

This morning they are showing hanging baskets of strawberries on QVC. Gosh, they look good. Makes me hungry for strawberry shortcake and some coffee!

Wreaths

Good morning friends,

Cold is better, so off to work I go today. I put up another one of my wreaths today and it is full of the spring theme. I stuck a little sign with "Daisy" in it, as a tribute to our dog we had for 14 yrs, Daisy. Our B&B was named for her. What a great dog she was :)

Everyone, have a great day!

Getting better and how about more tea!

Thanks to all my sweet bloggers for the good wishes of feeling better. Good news, I can breathe through my nose today! :)

On to something more visually asthetic than me sneezing, lol! I have been seeing alot of tea parties around on the blogs, so I thought I would post a pic of "Tea at The Drake Hotel." My daughter and I try to go every Christmas for tea at The Drake Hotel in Chicago. I don't want to bring winter back, but it is so pretty there when they do tea, so hope you enjoy!

Changed one of my winter wreaths and went right into summer. Wishful thinking!

The Oscars

I am very happy that Sandra Bullock won for "The Blind Side." What a great, inspirational movie.

Sniffle, sniffle

Well, the "cold bug" finally caught me, so I thought I would cook up some pinto beans with cornbread. It hit the spot.

Sunshine and spring flowers

Hi All,

We had full sunshine here in Illinois! I think my solar lights might even glow tonight. Thought I would post some pretty spring flowers. Hopefully, they have started poking up their little heads somewhere in the U.S. Think Spring!

Granny's Hoosier Cabinet

I now have this treasured piece of furntiure in my home. This was Granny Hollis' cabinet she had when my Dad and his brothers were little. She and I used to make many batches of noodles and cookies on this cabinet. Granny is now in heaven, but her treasured cabinet is here with me on earth. I think of our lovely times together everytime I pass by it.

Last fall I put a fresh coat of paint on it and left her chicken decals, she had put on it, so many years ago.
