Show Off Your Cottage!

Good Evening All,
I have been slowly adding a few things here and there at the Cape house. Son and dogs have moved in to their new place, so it is "safe" to put my things out :) The glider without the quilt, it is drying on the line from the rains last night...
My new $3 pillow in the center!

One of the beds along the fence... The bugs are chopping on the potatoe vine :(

Found this little treasure was in my son's new rental house...

In front of the gate to the backyard...

Movie Star Monday

Good Morning All,
This week I chose Elizabeth Taylor. She, I think, was the most beautiful movie star of our time.
We all know of her many marriages, twice to Richard Burton, and to Mike Todd, the famous producer, who she claims was the love of her life. He was tragically killed in an airplane crash. They had a daughter Liza, together. She has devoted her time lately to help raise money to fight and find the cure for aids. A younger Elizabeth...
Probably around the time of Cleopatra, 1960's...

Her friend, Roddy McDowell snapped this one, without makeup. We should all look so good! lol
Personally, my favorite movie of hers is, The Sandpiper with Richard Burton.

Hope you all have a good Monday

The Gables on the Ranch

Hi All,
I haven't posted on the Gables in awhile, so I thought I would show you this photo of them on their Encino, CA ranch hosting a summertime party on their back porch. The outdoor sofa they are sitting on was yellow wood frame and yellow cushions. Gable kept all the furniture at the ranch to same until his death in 1961. This photo is ca. 1940. Those two had alot of fun!

Clark and Carole...

Thrifty Finds!

Good Evening All,

Last week I found a new place to hunt antiques. I didn't have much time to spend, but today I took my time and look what I brought home! Pillows for the patio... $3 ea.
I especially love this Waverly pillow...

You know the Tennis Girl couldn't pass up this vintage racquet! On the fence it will go.

And my super find... This vintage metal picnic basket! $20 for it, but it will be my centerpiece under the pergola!

A closer look...

The last thing I just couldn't pass up, this little footstool, $5. Someone has made a zippered cover for it. Isn't it the cutest!!!

Look What I Found!

Good Morning All,

Look what I found!!! I was hunting around in a couple of antique shops the other day and found this beauty. A beautiful silverplate serving tray for $10!
Here she is all shined up!

I love the detail...

I used her for the first time at the tennis girl party to hold the cocktails!

The Tennis Girls are coming for lunch!

Hi All,

I am hosting a birthday party for one of the tennis girls, here at The Daisy Inn on Tuesday. We always have so much fun! I know we surely burn off all the calories we consume, just from laughing, alone! Here is the table I sat for the occasion...

Closeup of the centerpiece...

Closeup of the placesetting. Dishes are Spode, Fairy Dell, goblets by Waterford and wine glasses are Princess House.

Another view...

And the serving buffet...

I'm Changing It Up a Bit!

Good Morning All,
I am late getting out Vintage Magazine Monday. There were so many great parties this week to join, I just couldn't pass up, so I got all wrapped up in them. I thought I might change things up a bit and have Movie Star Monday(on Tues this week!) My first entry is the gal that got me started in loving old Hollywood, when I read a book about her many years ago. Greta Garbo. She was known simply as "The Face." I think you will see why when you look at her pictures. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1905 and died in NYC, where she had lived, after retiring from pictures in 1942. She died in 1990. The Great Garbo... From the film "Queen Christina,"(1933) based on the life of the Queen of Sweden
From the film, "The Single Standard." (1929)

That hat! Too cool or what???
Garbo was different from the start when she came to America in the twenties. Most of the silent actresses were short and plump. She was tall 5'7", thin, and had long straight hair. She is very modern looking, even for today. Hope you have enjoyed this little segment on Greta Garbo.

My Dad

Good Morning All,

I have been blessed to have had and still have a one of a kind Dad. I know many of you feel the same way, as I do. I am an only child and my Dad has done so much for me in the way of teaching, loving, being there for me, more than I could have ever asked for. He made life fun for me growing up and when he walks into a room, it becomes energized with happiness and spirit. His Mother, my Grandmother was the same way. He is a man's man with a gentle side and love for his family, that I have never seen in anyone, as I have in him. He and I have a very special bond and I admire him more than anyone I know. I will have to stop, as tears are filling my eyes. I love my Dad, more than I can say. A special man. This is a pic from his 80th birthday, last January at the Inn.
He taught me the game of tennis, which he and I are still hitting the ball on the court together today. How special is that? Grant Park, Chicago 1980 My Dad was an outstanding basketball player. He did not got to college, but had a scholarship to go. He opted to go to work and became an outstanding electrician in his field. We have another electrical job to do together at the Cape house when we move back. He and I will put a 200 amp service in to handle the new addition and garage. Did I mention he was 80? I would trust his work over anyone I know. When I was a teenager, I was his helper in the summertime on electrical jobs. He completely rewired The Daisy Inn 8 yrs ago, he was 72 then.

Dad played in many championship teams including for the city of Springfield, IL and in the Army his league won many championships. This is his senior basketball pic from 1947 from the same town I (as well as he and my Mother) live in today. He scored 29 points his last home game. Alot of points in today's game on any level.
Happy Father's Day, Dad.

Garden Tour #5

Good Morning All,
I was over at the Cape house yesterday mowing, weeding and deadheading, so I snapped some pics. My little bluebirds have found a home among the geraniums...
You can see some of my "finds" have found a place on the fence...

My newest find, an old shutter for $15! I love it!

The kids' red wagon when they pulled around when they were little :)

A new little garden stake I found at Rural King...

Transplanted some English Ivy from the front to climb the trellis...

The weeping rose tree is doing great!
