Hi All,
I have wanted to do a post about my favorite coffee pot for awhile, but just got around to getting the pictures together. You know my love for The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Mary. I loved the coffee maker she had on the early eposides of the show, so I researched and found it to be called a "Chemex." Used mostly in the late 60's and 70's. I found one over the internet and purchased it. They are sold at kitchen specialty stores.
You make the coffee by pouring boiling water over the coffee grounds and let it drip through. It makes the "cleanest" cup of coffee. I also have the grid, so I can keep it warm on the stove.
Here are some shots of mine and a shot of Mary using hers, from the show. Very retro and cool :)
Have a great evening.

Very cool coffee maker! I never noticed it on the show!
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to make her coffee that way only she had it drip through an old "coffee perker" strainer and drip into a pretty pottery pot with black eyed susans painted on it. I will have to post the cute little pot someday soon! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! That was very interesting!
Hugs!

I have a Chemex too. While I use a Cuisinart for making our morning coffee, I have the Chemex because I think it has a great artistic shape. I also have a French Press Pot which is cool too. I remember Mary using the Chemex on her show.

I just bought a Melitta last week - I love it! It does make a very nice cup of coffee, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh, I used to use a Chemex back in the late 70's/early 80's - it was so trendy back then! (and so time-consuming, too!)
ReplyDeleteDid you buy the filter or make your own? Cool coffee maker. I'm sure it makes a delicious cup of coffee. I just got a brand new Krups with a stainless steel carafe at a church rummage sale. I was using a French Press before that. The Krups is definitely less mess and I don't have to worry about breaking the pot. My first cup of coffee is the best part of the day. Rosemary
ReplyDeleteThat is cool. I bought a thermos from an auction , years ago, that you make coffee using the pour method. It has a filter on top that you pour through right into the thermos.
