Famous Couples Friday

Hi All,
Here is this week's famous couple. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Joan Crawford. The marriage didn't last too long, but it did put Joan into Hollywood Royalty. Her inlaws were Doug Fairbanks, Sr. and Mary Pickford, the first superstars of the silent screen. The photo is ca. 1928. Doug, Jr. was born in 1909 and died in 2000. Joan was born in 1905 and died in 1977. I would assume they are on Santa Monica beach in CA
I wanted to show another picture of a young Joan. We all know her history, not a good mother, so they say, but she was a striking beauty in her youth.

  1. I think that she was much prettier in her youth and not just because she was young. As she got older she had a certain edge about her that made her look severe, as though all of the kindness had vanished. One of my favorite Joan Crawford movies is titled "When Ladies Meet" also staring Greer Garson, Robert Taylor, Spring Byington and Herbert Marshall. Watch it sometime and tell me if you like the Connecticut home of Spring's character. I love it!!

    Love,

  2. She was definitely a classic beauty. I just viewed your gorgeous roses. This is my first year at having any, and now I'm hooked. Take care.

  3. What a beauty she was - it's hard to reconcile that view with the tough image she projected later.

  4. Susan,
I will definitely watch it. I have probably seen snippets of it along the way at some point, but will check it out again!
