I haven't posted on the Gables in awhile, so I thought I would show you this photo of them on their Encino, CA ranch hosting a summertime party on their back porch. The outdoor sofa they are sitting on was yellow wood frame and yellow cushions. Gable kept all the furniture at the ranch to same until his death in 1961. This photo is ca. 1940. Those two had alot of fun!

I am reposting for Sunday Favorites over at Chari's at Happy to Design
Two of the original Beautiful People!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved Clark Gable! There is just something about him.
ReplyDeleteI was thrilled to know that in a very twisted and in the loooooosest meaning of the word, I am sorta related to him.
My beloved great Aunt Pat was married to his first cousin. Does that count? I'd like to think so.
Anyway we have Gable's in our family too!
Thanks for the fun post.

Hi Robin!! Here's a question ... didn't Clark Gable and Loretta Young have an affair and that affair produced a daughter? I think that I remember reading about that. Glad to hear you bought your Cuisinart Grind and Brew. Yes, I'm the one who has one too. Doesn't it make great coffee?? Anyway, love the pic of Gable and Lombard together. I'd love to be eating watermelon on their back porch!!

Good photo of Gable and Lombard eating that watermellon. I can't believe he kept the same furnishings all that time since now Moive Stars buy and sell homes in a NY minute to keep up with one another!

Thanks for the great Gable/Lombard post. I've often wondered..............do you think they would have stayed together forever if she hadn't died in that crash? I'd like to think so.

ReplyDeleteI thought I left a comment but I may have clicked the wrong button. Only two to choose from and I got the wrong one.
ReplyDeleteI love the styles of that era and also love the black and white photos.
Lovely post -- about two lovely people. Such a tragic love story.
ReplyDeleteAnd the sofa they are gracing? My Mom had the same one in our beach house; it's still there!
