I am so happy my computer is working again so I can join Suzanne over at The Coloradolady and Vintage Thingie Thursday , Brambleberry Cottage and Time Travel Thursday , Dayle over at A Collection of This and That and Simple Pleasures and Cindy at My Romantic Home and Show and Tell Friday. This is my grandparent's former home. We have been going to the hospital every Tues for the last six weeks to a wound specialist in Springfield, Il. My Dad's head is healing up nicely, so we are all happy about that. My maternal grandparents lived outside of Springfield, so I took my parents by the house they used to live in. This was a special treat for my Mom.
I have told you all about the bell that hangs in my kitchen. It was my Grandmother's. It used to hang in her enclosed back porch. I would ring it to let them know we had arrived.
They have sided over the lapboard siding and installed new windows...
Here is the back porch, just as we used to enter it through the door, however they have remodeled the old porch and expanded it. New large windows have been added to replace the original single glass, multi-paned windows... We drove through the circle drive, so I could snap these pictures.
I wish someone had been there for a tour, but at least my Mom had this treat of seeing the house again.

Isn't it fun to be able to give your parent a treat like that? It's such a pretty house.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you got to drive them by it. We sold my Mother's house a few years ago and I still can't drive past it. I still want to remember it how it was and I know the knew owners did a massive reno on it.
ReplyDeleteThat was a nice gesture on your part. However, I have found in doing this it can be sad seeing so many changes.
ReplyDeleteI love driving past houses we used to live in and checking up on them now and then. I'm sure it meant a lot to your mom to see it again. The house looks like it's being well taken care of!
ReplyDeleteI was taking my son to work one day and because we were close I turned and drove by the house my Dad and grandfather had builted when I was a small child. As I slowed down,so I could look at it my son said,'Hey Mom my friend Scott lives in that house!"That made me so happy and I could hardly wait to tell my Mom .

Awwww, that was nice to see the house where there were so many lovely memories. Susan
ReplyDeleteRobin, that tugs at my heart strings because u know that I know how u feel!! Hope you get to go in on one of the trips. Like 1515 it was different, but the minute you step in the good memories flood back.
ReplyDeleteThat is such an awesome house. I know she enjoyed seeing it so much..
ReplyDeleteThe house is so pretty. What a treat it must have been for all of you to see it again!

Robin, first let me say how delightful your Cape Cod home looks with all of the fall decor, inside and out. And thanks for linking up to Simple Pleasures today. This was the sweetest gift to give your parents... a trip to see the old homeplace.
ReplyDeleteI am always torn when I do this....I miss and feel sad for the times that are gone, but love seeing it again too!! The house is beautiful. Happy VTT!
ReplyDeleteHow special that you went by the home to treat your parents. I took my granddaughter to KC with me a few years back and took a picture of her standing in front of the house I grew up in. I posted the winner of the truck contest my sisters and I had back in September. I also am having a give away for my 100th blog in just a few days so hope you will be able to come by for a visit. Debbie
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful daughter you are! I bet it was a blessing to see the lovely home again. I love the bell - I'm sure you must treasure it as a precious keepsake! blessings..Trish
ReplyDeleteOh what happy memories! It's a lovely home, even with the remodel it must have been a delight to visit again. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the feeling that you got seeing your grandparents old home. I have only been back to see where my grandmother lived a few times in about 20 years. It filled my heart in a way I can't quite describe.
ReplyDeleteI love that you kept that bell. That's such a special memory.
That's a special trip to take with your parents. I can't do that - both of my grandparents' homes are too far away and have changed too much - and not in a good way. This looks like a lovely and inviting home and its great that you have a meaningful memento of the house itself in your home.
ReplyDeleteA very lovely looking home! How very special to be able to go past this home with so many memories tied to it! I'm sure your parents were thrilled that you thought of such a visit :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gail
what a wonderful gift to give to your mother. I always love "going back" to look at our old homes too.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Cindy
BTW, LOVE your header. Simply beautiful!!
How sweet to remember going to your mothers home and I bet your conversation were many good memeories about going there and the bell I love it !!!!also I like your house
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing this summer with my mom and aunt, seeing the house they grew up in and had the fondest memories of. The people who live it now must have thought we were crazy since we had to make our way up a long driveway to get to it -- and then I sat there taking pictures from my car. :) Sending well wishes to your dad and blessings upon all. Tammy
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to be able to drive past your grandparent's home. My grandparent's homes are in Indiana and Ohio. I have pics of their houses though and love to look and them and remember all of the happy memories created there! So glad that your Dad is improving each week!!
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Susan and Bentley

treasured memories of a beautiful family home :)
ReplyDeleteHi, again. In answer to your question about where we are moving--we are just moving across town to a condo. Since we are getting older and don't want the yard care, and maintenance, etc we have decided to do this to free us up. Plus, downsizing means less cleaning ;-). I hope!
ReplyDeleteMy mom has been revisiting places she lived in as a child.
ReplyDeleteAdmiring only from the outside.
So very sweet that she can do that.
What a sweet thing to do. I'm sure it was a pleasant memory for all.

Hi Robin, How wonderful to get to visit a happy place of memories:-)) The bell gave me a big smile... My grandparents always had a bell by the back door so my grandmother could call my grandfather in for supper:-)) Thanks for sparking a happy memory for me:-))
ReplyDeleteBella
Just by, this morning, to say hi..and hope your day is great.
ReplyDeleteDo you work?
Such a lovely home...a bittersweet trip down memory lane...
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful it must be to go back and find that the home of your childhood...has been taken such wonderful care of. I think the home is just gorgeous and someone who lives there cares very much. That is so apparently. I am happy your mother saw it so beautifully cared for.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you should have left a note...just saying "thanks!" :) I'll bet it would have made them smile!
Happy Halloween...have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs,
Mona
How nice that you have something special of your grandmother's. I'm sure it brings back wonderful memories each time you see it.
